A Festival of Creative Urban Living

26 September – 13 October 2019
Meeting Place

Inspired by the original community houses of MK and nestled amongst the trees and porte cocheres of Midsummer Boulevard East, the Meeting Place will offer a place to sit, enjoy a refreshment and take part in a free programme of performances, talks, workshops, demonstrations, classes and discussions.

There’ll be dance lessons provided by Romeo Dance Academy, performances of a handbell ringing collective; a pop-up Syrian kitchen; Faith Dimensions Gospel Choir; sketchbook drawing classes; MK Myths storytelling sessions and Kathak dance workshops. Meeting Place talks and discussions include many artists, curators, authors, academics, thinkers, architects and urban planners.

Some highlights:

Utopian Radicalism

During this day long discussion, our collaborators the International New Town Institute will bring together examples of inspiring and provocative city-making projects – mostly from New Towns across the globe, which have been designed and realised by residents.

Bauhaus Now

Chris Murray from Core Cities and Charles Landry, who is one of the foremost thinkers and writers on the future of cities will bring together a discussion and workshop, which reinvents the legendary Bauhaus school for our age and asks – what would the Bauhaus be doing now to improve cities and the lives of so many people that live in them. In doing so, they aim to reveal new solutions and ideas.

Show Me! Don’t Tell Me!

A workshop and panel discussion programmed by raumlaborberlin which looks at recent art and cultural projects from across the globe that have promoted a Show Me! Don’t Tell Me! approach to delivering positive social and civic change, working hand and hand with communities.

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to hear about the full programme.

Most events will operate on a first come first served basis, but a select few will be ticketed due to capacity (but still FREE and open to all).
